A Japanese gas company looking to build a $12 billion LNG processing plant in Darwin has changed its plans to preserve access to some fishing areas.
Inpex today released its environmental impact statement for a plant to process gas from a site in the Timor Sea, 800 kilometres from the Northern Territory.
Recreational fishers have previously expressed concerned over a jetty blocking access to popular fishing creeks.
The plans released today include a shorter jetty and a seven-kilometre shipping channel.
The company says sediment from dredging the channel could kill some mangroves, but it does not think seagrass in which dugongs feed will be affected.
